Though formed in 1889 it was throughout the 1970’s when the club enjoyed a meteoric rise from a respectably placed Western League side, to being ranked within the top 100 clubs in the country when they finished runners-up to Wimbledon in the Southern League Premier Division (1976-77).
Being elected to the Football League, this proved to be Wimbledon’s final season in non league football, and though Miinehead enjoyed high level non league success into the early 80’s, it was not long before the two clubs were poles apart - Wimbledon reaching the dizzy heights of the Premiership and winning the FA Cup Final and Minehead sinking to the depths of “level 10” and the Western League First Division.
