I first became involved with Minehead FC at the age of 9 when I became the club’s mascot, a position held for some 4 seasons until the end of 1972/73, the club’s first season in the Southern League.
My father (Jim) became heavily involved behind the scenes, holding such positions as Secretary, Chairman, Social Club President, Bingo Caller, Coach Driver, Kit-Man, in fact if there was a job to do he’d be there to do it.
My mother (Barbara) also enjoyed a very committed involvement, as did several other persons during the good times. Unfortunately help is now very thin on the ground, as most “local” non league teams undoubtedly find.
Having travelled with the team to virtually every Southern League game, my support for the team has waned very little over the years, and I still try to get to to every game, home or away.
Having produced the award winning programme “The Matchday Chronicle” for several years, and winning the accolade of being voted the Western League’s top programme 4 seasons running, I have often claimed to be Minehead’s best supporter over what is now approaching 40 years.
As a self confessed statistician, I hope I am now suitably qualified to write the definitive history of Minehead Football Club.
